4. How can I import files from excel?

MyMovies version 1.30 and higher supports Excel import through Import Wizard. For earlier versions you can use this procedure:

First of all, you should save excel document as text file. Select File, Save As, and in 'Save as Type' filed select 'Text (Tab delimited)'. Close Excel. If you open saved file in 'Notepad' it looks like this:

1	Tarzan	1	k1lw	1999
2	Traffic	2	zzef	2000
3	Dinosaur	1 2000
4	Training Day	2	41t	2001

The first column is CD number. The second is movie title, third represents number of CD-s, fourth is some stupid code and the last column is movies release year.

Open MyMovies, select File-Import and select saved file. Check 'Title', 'CD number', 'Number of CDs', 'Year' and 'Ignore'. Now you should place fields according their order in file: click on 'CD number' and than click and hold up arrow until 'CD number' positions on the top of the list. Now, scroll down to 'Ignore', click it and press up arrow until it positions itself between 'Number of CDs' and 'Year'. Order of fields in this box is now same as in file, except 'Alt. Title' field which is not checked, so it can be left there as it will be ignored in import process.

Look at delimiters section of a dialog. As Excel saved file as 'Text (Tab delimited)', 'Tab' delimiter should be checked and all other left unchecked. Text qualifier can be set to 'none' but double quote will do the work. Click on 'Import' and the list is imported. Now you can double-click on every movie item and enter other movie details or simply click on 'Get From Net' button to automatically fill movie data. Top Of The Page

5. How can I search for movies?

Open the search bar (F2 key) and click on desired criteria (or more of them). A edit box will show up where you can enter search request.

For numeric fields (CD#, Year, Runtime and Ratio) you can enter ranges separated with commas. For example, click on 'Year' and enter:

-1984, 1986, 1990-1992, 1998-
shows movies released before year 1984, in year 1986 or years 1990,91,92 and all from 1998.

For other fields you can use any part of text. Also, you can precede your searches with + (must have), * or - (must not have) and / or | (may have) and combine them. For example, click on 'Cast' and enter:
john travolta /tom cruise
shows movies with John Travolta OR Tom Cruise.
john travolta -tom cruise
shows movies with John Travolta but NOT those with Tom Cruise.
+john travolta +tom cruise
shows movies with both John Travolta AND Tom Cruise.
-tom cruise
shows all movies EXCEPT those with Tom Cruise. Top Of The Page

If you already have list in text or excel file, you can use Import option in File menu. Import Wizard will guide you through import process.

If you have selected movies in MyMovies document, you can copy and paste movies to your list.

In any other case, you can use Mass Add option from Edit menu. Just type media details and movie title and click Add button. All other movie data will be downloaded from internet. As you can add many movies while downloading and that many movie can be downloaded and processed in the same time, new additions will be much faster than adding one by one with Add New option.
